About this interactive
Each demo lesson in this run shows what one kind of application is built to do.
A word processor creates documents such as letters, notes and resumes, with templates and tools for fonts, sizes, bold, underline and bulleted lists. A text editor edits simple text with no fancy formatting: Notepad saves plain .txt in one font and strips formatting from pasted text, and Notepad++ helps you edit code.
A PDF is a portable document file almost anyone can open in a free viewer, while a Word file needs Word; Windows makes one with Microsoft Print to PDF, and Adobe's paid writer can combine documents and add e-signing. A spreadsheet stores, organizes, computes and analyzes data, with formulas that update when a value changes. Presentation software builds slides and shows them one at a time in presentation mode. A diagramming tool draws org charts, flowcharts, roadmaps and network diagrams, where a picture replaces a lot of words.
Drag each task into the kind of app built for it, then check your answers.
