About this interactive
From the lesson:
- **In-band management** travels over the production network, usually a management VLAN. Lock it down: access control lists so only admin machines reach it, and SSH, never Telnet, because Telnet sends credentials in clear text.
- **Out-of-band management** uses separate hardware: its own switch and cabling, or a console server wired to each device's console port. It still works when the production network or internet link is down.
- **The rest of the basics:** lock up network closets, use strong passwords, shut down unused ports, patch firmware and turn off unused services before a device goes live.
