About this interactive
The Planning Considerations lesson works through a change before it is made. Its notes fall into four parts of the plan.
Technical impact: what the change does to everything else. Downtime, service and application restarts, dependencies on other software and hardware, legacy systems, and allow and deny lists. Security+ lists these as the technical implications of a change.
Testing: try it before production. A staging, test or dev environment checks the change itself and also the rollout steps, which is how you find out, for example, that the install needs a restart.
Timing and notice: when it happens and who is told. Avoid busy periods, use a maintenance window, respect what the SLA allows for planned downtime, and tell anyone who could be affected, even if no downtime is expected.
Backout: the way back if it goes wrong. A snapshot, an extra backup, saved configurations, or version control that lets you roll back to an earlier version.
A quick test for each card: does the note say what the change will affect, how it will be tried first, when and to whom, or how to undo it?
