Packet Tracer's interface follows a familiar layout that will feel approachable to anyone who has used standard productivity or design software. At the top sits a menu bar with common file operations such as open, save, and copy-paste. Directly below it is the main toolbar, which provides quick access to functions like zoom controls, save shortcuts, and tools for selecting and manipulating objects placed on the workspace. The central portion of the interface is the main map area, where network topologies are built by placing and connecting devices. This is the primary working space in Packet Tracer and is used for nearly all design and simulation tasks. Along the bottom of the screen, a dedicated toolbar provides access to the full library of network devices and cable or connection types, which are dragged onto the map area to construct a network. The map area also supports two distinct views of a network: the logical view and the physical view. The logical view, which is the default and most commonly used, displays how devices are connected and how data flows between them at a conceptual level. The menu bar and toolbars

Up here we have the menu bar, just like the other menu bars we see, and we've got the standard copy and paste. We've got where we can save this as a file, or we can open up other files, so we've got a lot of the standard features up here in the menu bar.

Down below we've got our main toolbar right here, and it has all the quick tools that we might use, similar to what we see in other programs. We can zoom in or zoom out, we've got a save as well, or if we want to print something. Then there's this secondary one, if we want to manipulate and change some of the stuff on the items that we're going to be working with on this main map area.

And that's what this is: this is the main map area. Down here we then have this toolbar at the bottom, which is where we're going to find a lot of our equipment and our connections and that type of thing. We'll definitely be using a lot of this main area right here, as well as this toolbar down here at the bottom.

One other thing we can see about this main area: we've got a logical map, so we can see how things are set up logically. We also have the physical. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on the physical side of things, but this could be one way that we could visualize what's happening with this equipment and where this equipment's at. So this is a cool tab where we could get familiar with what we'll actually see in the networking closet. But for now, we're going to really focus mainly on this.
