About this interactive

The lesson uses a database whose transactions are copied to a second site. Synchronous: before a transaction is entered, it is copied over, and then it is executed on both databases. There is no chance the two get out of step. The disadvantage: if copying to the other site is slow, every transaction waits for it. Asynchronous: the transaction is executed at the first site, then sent to the other site and applied whenever it can be. Nothing at the first site waits. The disadvantage: if a change never makes it over, the databases end up different. Replication is not a backup: a mistake executed on one database is replicated to the other too.
