About this interactive
A sandbox is a place to play that is not the real thing. For software, it is a controlled environment where a program you do not trust yet, or one you know is malicious, can run without touching the rest of the computer or network. The test is access: a sandboxed program gets only the resources it needs to run, and nothing else.
That can take several forms: a laptop that is not connected to the network, a virtual machine with no network link or shared folders, a program confined on one computer, or a whole test, development or staging environment that new code passes through before it goes to production, where real users connect.
To decide a card, look for the wall. Shared folders, a link to the real network, admin rights on a working machine or live data all break it.
