About this interactive

Picture a timeline with an incident on it, such as a fire in the data center. The recovery point objective (RPO) looks back from the incident: how much data can we afford to lose, measured in time? An RPO of 15 minutes means 15 minutes of lost data or less, so a copy has to be taken at least that often. The recovery time objective (RTO) looks forward: how long can it take to get running again? Six hours, 24 hours, or nearly instant if two live sites can fail over at a click. Both cost money. The closer either one gets to the incident, the more expensive it is to meet.
