About this interactive
The Identity and Access Management lesson treats IAM as more than the systems people sign in to. It also covers how accounts are managed from start to finish, in three stages.
Provisioning: someone joins, so an account is created and given the access the new job needs.
Maintenance: while the person stays, the account is kept right. When they change jobs, the lesson calls for change management: they get what the new job needs and lose what it does not. Promotions, renamed accounts, replaced tokens, extended contracts and regular access reviews all belong here.
De-provisioning: the person leaves, so the account is shut down and its access removed.
Some tools call any grant of access "provisioning" and any removal "de-provisioning", whatever the reason. In this lesson's life cycle the stage follows the person. A quick test for each card: is the person joining, staying, or leaving?
