About this interactive
The lesson's example is a company hiring a penetration testing firm, and the agreements change with each stage of the relationship.
Choose the vendor first. Because the firm will be probing your network, it has to be one you trust to handle your systems securely.
Then negotiate. Your requirements come from your policies, your facilities, whether physical testing is wanted and the compliance you have to meet.
The master service agreement (MSA) is signed once and governs the whole relationship: the NDA is usually written into it, along with payment terms and how legal disputes are settled. It stays in force until it needs updating.
Each engagement then gets its own statement of work (SOW): the scope, the cost, roles and responsibilities, the rules of engagement, the assets, what access the testers get, whether the test is invasive or non-invasive, and a rescan after fixes.
The testers carry out the test. You fix what they find and they rescan to confirm the fixes. Then that SOW is closed out, while the MSA carries on for the next engagement.
