About this interactive
The Onboarding and Termination Procedures lesson calls these two the most critical points in an employee's time with the company, from a security standpoint, and puts the same three things at the center of both: accounts, equipment and training.
Onboarding sets the tone. The new hire needs the right system accounts and groups, the right software and licenses, cloud access, and equipment that is set up, secured and shipped before the first day. Training covers the equipment, the systems, the help desk, the company's policies and security. Get it wrong and the problems show up later: access the role does not call for, an unsecured device, or someone who never learned the rules.
Offboarding closes the doors. Accounts are turned off, systems returned, licenses sent back into inventory, hardware collected. Get it wrong and a former employee or contractor keeps a way in.
The lesson's advice for both: document the process, so it runs the same way every time and no step is missed.
A quick test for each card: is the person whose access, equipment or training went wrong just starting, or already gone?
