About this interactive
A NAS (network attached storage) is a storage device with its own network adapter. Plugged into the network's switch with a network cable, it shares files to every device on that network.
The lesson's setup on a Synology NAS:
1. Plug the NAS into the network, then log on to it.
2. Create a user (Control Panel, User) with a password.
3. Create a share (File Station) and give the user read/write access to it.
4. On a Windows laptop, open Run, type two backslashes and the NAS's IP address, and sign in as the NAS user.
5. Open the share and save a file; it appears on the NAS.
The user has to exist before you can give it access to the share, and the laptop signs in with the NAS's account, not its own.
