About this interactive
What you are doing: deciding whether each fragment of a logic bomb is its trigger or its payload.
The lesson’s two halves: the logic is the trigger, the condition that has to be met, such as a date and time, or a check of a website that keeps asking whether it is time yet. The bomb is the harmful action that runs once the condition is met, such as deleting data. The delay is the point: it gives the malware time to spread before the attack reveals it.
How to use it: ask whether the fragment says when it acts or what it does. When is the logic; what is the bomb. A wrong answer resets your streak.
What you'll learn
- Split a logic bomb into its two parts: the logic, the condition that must be met before it acts, and the bomb, the harmful action it then carries out
- Explain why an attacker delays the payload with a trigger: to let the malware spread unnoticed before it reveals itself
