About this interactive

Sometimes a person needs to be in an area but is not qualified to have full access to it. That is when a security escort is used: someone who stays with that person until their job is finished. The lesson's example is an electrician who has to work inside a data center. He has a real job to do, but nobody can be sure he is not trying to plug his own equipment into the network, so an escort stays with him. The second example is clearance. An engineer waiting for his secret clearance had an escort everywhere he went. Once the clearance came through, he could go into the areas he needed without one. The test is authorization, not job title. A contractor who has been vetted and badged for a room can go in alone, and an employee who is not cleared for an area still needs an escort there. To sort a card, ask whether this person is authorized for this area.
