About this interactive
The Personnel Management lesson treats an employee like any other asset with a life cycle, and gives security a part in each stage.
Candidate: before the person is hired. Security helps set the technical and security requirements for the role, screens out applicants who do not meet them, and makes sure a background check is run.
Onboarding: bringing the new hire in. Accounts and access are set up, equipment is configured, secured and shipped in time for the first day, and training covers the equipment, the systems, how to reach the help desk, and the company's policies.
Development: onboarding is over, but the employee is not yet fully up to speed. It can last weeks for a less technical role and a year or more for a technical one. Many companies set a probation period, often six months, with limits such as no vacation yet.
Performance: the employee is fully proficient. Security keeps up ongoing awareness training, both new material and repetition, and keeps staff current as policies change.
Separation: the employee leaves. Accounts and access are removed, equipment and licenses come back, and feedback is gathered to improve the process.
A quick test for each card: is the person not yet hired, just arriving, still learning the job, fully proficient, or on the way out?
