Every computer, from a phone to a data-centre rack, does exactly four things: it takes data in, works on it, gives results back, and keeps what it needs for later. Input, processing, output, storage. Once you can see those four roles, an unfamiliar piece of hardware stops being a mystery — you ask what it does to data, and the answer places it. This activity gives you sixteen everyday components and four bins to sort them into. Most are quick: a keyboard feeds data in, a printer puts results out. Two are worth slowing down for. A graphics card sits in Processing, not Output, because rendering an image is computation — the monitor is the part that outputs it, and computing is not something only the CPU does. RAM sits in Storage, because storage means holding data, and RAM holds it while the machine is running; that it forgets everything at power-off makes it volatile storage, not something other than storage. Get those two right and you have the model, not just the labels.
