About this interactive
The Data Loss Detection lesson starts from the fact that protection can fail: an attacker gets in, or someone inside does something they should not with the data. So sensitive data is monitored, to notice when it ends up in the wrong place or goes to the wrong destination.
Watermarking tags a document, either with a visible mark such as a large TOP SECRET behind the text or with an electronic tag. If a printout is left on a printer or found somewhere it should not be, the mark shows what it is and starts the questions: who printed it, and why was it left out?
Digital rights management manages access to digital resources: software, music, videos, documents. Monitoring and controlling who opens them is DRM.
Network traffic analysis watches what goes in, out and through the network. Deep packet inspection reads the content of the traffic, and traffic decryption opens up encrypted traffic so it can be read.
Data loss prevention systems include detection as one of their parts.
A quick test for each card: is the evidence a mark on the document, a record of who opened a file, or something seen on the network?
