About this interactive

The Compliance Management lesson gives a company with laws at every level (country, federal, state or province, and sector rules such as card-payment standards) one repeatable process to keep up with them. Identify comes first: list the laws, regulations and standards that apply. A new market, a new kind of data or a new way of taking payments adds to the list. Research the impact next: for each requirement, work out what it means for this company, which systems and records it touches, and where today falls short. Develop the policy: write the policies and standards that meet the requirement, and get them approved. Implement the policy: put it into practice, with settings changed, training given and records handled the way the policy says. Re-evaluate: laws change, so the cycle runs again, on a yearly or other schedule and whenever a law or standard changes. A changed requirement sends you back through the cycle. The lesson also mentions compliance software that tracks many requirements at once. It helps with every step; it does not replace any of them.
